Shanghai Gourmet

Having been past chinatown quite a few times and not exactly ventured into eat anything, it was probably time... Usually I'd end up in one of those little cafes, but was asked to try out this shanghainese place. Wasn't packed, and it felt like we were on the only table there!

Shanghai Gourmet
Wasn't a big place, but reasonably spaced. Typical neon lighting at the front of the store... not sure how much attention that really gets though

Scallion Pancakes
Started off with the basic scallion pancakes. Crispy enough and not overly oily (as long as you don't grab the bottom piece!)

Xiao Long Bao
Can you actually pass on shanghainese dumplings at a shanghainese restaurant? Tried both the pork meat dumpling and crab roe with pork meat. Can definitely taste the difference, as the crab roe gives off an extra sweet flavour. The skin wasn't too thick, which is always a bonus and to my liking =)

Pan Fried Dumplings
The other choice of dumplings... well more of a bun, but pan fried. Fried stuff always tastes better!! But I didn't feel this was crispy enough unfortunately

Fish and Veggie Soup
Nice soothing fish and veggie soup. Enough taste (hopefully wasn't too much msg) to go with the other dishes. I've now come more accustomed to not so strong flavoured soup - so that you can taste more of the natural and basic flavours =)

Crispy Skin Duck
They recommended to try the local special of crispy duck as opposed to peking duck. Didn't disappoint, but was pretty ordinary.

Nothing special, just a nice cheap meal at a local chinese place. Worth going to, especially without having a million people to fight with in getting a seat. Service was ok, wasn't the rude type which is always good and makes for a more pleasant experience.
