Still on the cravings for some good japanese, ventured out to another sushi joint. This place apparently had some nice reviews, and although not the closest around... was hopeful that I wouldn't be disappointed having subwayed out to the other side of town.
Upon arriving, it looked like a reasonably cosy joint. However being located opposite the time warner building didn't provide it with much of a view outside the windows.

Saikyo-Yaki |
To start off was a saikyo-yaki, broiled chilean seabass marinated in light miso sauce. One of the chef's special, the bass was done pretty well for a simple dish. Really enjoyed the light miso marinade and how well it went with the bass. The garnish however, was awfully sour and I'm not sure I was meant to eat it...

Grilled Duck Medallion |
The next starter was a pan seared duck in orange-soy sauce. This was done really well and when you place duck and orange together, you can't go wrong... Duck wasn't overdone but slightly chewy in areas.

Spinach Gomae |
The final starter before moving onto the much anticipated sushi... spinach gomae, a spinach salad with sesame sauce. I'm not a great fan of sesame sauce but on spinach as a cold salad... it goes pretty well. Something that I might try more often.

Sushi and Sashimi |
A pretty standard sushi and sashimi set... But you definitely could taste the freshness. Definite highlight was the additional toro order. When the toro melts in your mouth... you know it's a winner!! Only downside was the serving size... even for japanese standards, this was definitely extremely small. Literally they were bite size...

Sushi Roll |
With the sushi and sashimi set not being enough... added an additional sushi roll. Couldn't remember which one it was on the small menu, but whatever it was, it tasted nice. Once again... serving size was extremely small. To end it off... sea urchin... =) I've always loved sea urchin (after I started eating it...). This wasn't the best I've had... but it's the first I've tried in nyc. Would love to find more.
In the end... a reasonable experience. Food was nice and fresh, but a bit underwhelming with serving size. Probably not a place that I'd go back to.
