Haven't actually gone out for Italian properly since I've been here (except for Pizza)... and was looking forward to some nice pasta. Came across this nicely done Italian place called Petraca Cucina E Vino, which wasn't too far away from home (more than enough of a walk).
Not a large place, but more than reasonable. With that dimly lit environment, it provided a large (quite large) selection of wines that had to be tried!
I still find it amusing that the serve the wine to you in a decanter bottle, before pouring half of it into your glass. Generous serving sizes =)
To start, some beef carpaccio with arugola and parmesan cheese. A nice light and refreshing dish.
Feeling it wasn't going to be enough, added a piatto rustico with proscuitto, mortadella, salami, parmesan and olives. Now this was much larger than expected!! More and more, I've been starting to enjoy cheese, wine and ham. =)
There was originally something on the menu that I was interested in... the spaghetti con polpettine (spaghetti with home made meatballs). But was tempted by the waiter's suggestion of the daily special (which I can't remember). It was some spaghetti with a light cream sauce.
My friend ordered the other special of the day, fettucine with mushroom and a light tomato sauce. It's always the case with food envy - wanting the other dish that was ordered! Not that any of it was bad, but it was good flavoured pasta that went well with some great selection of wines! =)
