Dressler

Having started to try a few one starred michelin restaurants here, it was about time to try and tick a few more places off on the 2011 list. Chef polo dobkin has received a star for four consecutive years, and given the opportunity, it is something to go try.

Dressler
The interior has a very vintage and classy feel to it, in stark contrast to the outside neighbourhood. A stunning dining room as has been described.

Mini Peekytoe Crab Cakes
I had contemplated the tasting menu, but for a late dinner it probably wasn't the best idea. To start I chose mini peekytoe crab cakes with greek yoghurt, cucumber and dill. The yoghurt provided a very refreshing balance to the crab cakes. Not the best crab cakes I've had, but it was the sauce that was the highlight.

Long Island Duck Breast
Still in a recent fascination with the different ways duck have been done, again I opted for the duck. This was a long island duck breast with wild rice, roasted peach puree and wild mushroom. I really liked the slight crisp of the duck skin among the medium rare breast. The wild rice provided a contrast in texture and flavour that absorbed the duck juice, but the sauce was a little too rich.

Hudson Valley Chicken
The hudson valley chicken with escarole, dumplings, baby artichokes, roasted tomato, pancetta and gremolata. A very interesting combination of choices put together that was suprisingly nice. Great chefs are hard to come by, and to turn a simple chicken with so many other flavours is well worth visiting.

Buttermilk Panna Cotta
No better way to end the night than with some sweetness in desserts. A buttermilk panna cotta with blackberries, mint and brown sugar crisps. I was great fan of the sugar crisps, and it goes so well with the panna cotta. The blackberries had nothing special to it, and would have preferred it if it had a bit more of a sour kick.

Cheesecake
And of course you're not really in new york if you don't have a cheesecake. This comes with brown sugar crust, sour cherries and sweet basil.

A great place for a meal, just not in the best area to get to. I would definitely want to come back and try the tasting menu to get a full range of all its meals.
