Kittichai

Apparently one of the best thai places in town, and this warrants a visit. Although it was only after work with a few colleagues at a walkable distance away - the hunger made me decide to use the local taxis. As I walked in, I really loved the layout of the place, with all the bottles and lighting against the wall.

Kittichai
The seating area is pretty nice. With lovely landscaping and water set throughout the rooms. It was all quite dimly lit, a place designed for a little bit of romance.

Banana Blossom Salad, Green Papaya and Mango Salad, Seared Duck Breast with Asian Pear Salad, and Kittichai Fish Cakes
Given how hungry we were, we picked a few starters to share. Typical of thai dishes, they're designed to be shared. We decided on the banana blossom salad with grilled shrimp and roasted cashew nuts. This was definitely an interesting combination of flavours, where the only banana thing is the banana leaf being served on. It provides a nice touch and hint of flavours. Staying on the healthy theme, there's also the green papaya and mango salad with dried shrimp and chilli cashew dressing. Papaya always brings out a nice refreshing taste. The seared duck breast with asian pear salad and black vinegar soy dressing was definitely a stand out and my favourite of the night. And to finish off, the kittichai fish cakes with cucumber and red onion chutney.

Crispy Whole Fish
I opted for the crispy whole fish with galangai dressing and green chilli. The presentation was a definite wow, with the core spine deep fried in a spiral shape, where the cutlets of meat all split out with the crispy skin on it. Best thing was, the crispy fins/spine is mainly all edible at the perfect level of crunchiness. The dressing and chilli bring out the freshness of the fish, and it's a dish I'd definitely go back for.

Coconut Braised Short Ribs
The coconut braised short ribs with kaffir lime leaf, mint and fresh coriander. The ribs is meant to be the surprise package of the list and the flavours do definitely live up to expectations. The meat is extremely tender and the sauces and flavours can be tasted throughout.

A really nice thai place, definitely set with romantic themes. The food exceed expectations and I can definitely say is the best thai food I've had to date. Although a little on the pricier side, the ambiance, the environment, and of course the food, make it all worth it.
