Pepolino

Surprisingly have been past this place a few times, but never really paid attention. What makes it even more interesting is that its right next door for a few colleagues at the sheraton. Not sure why it's taken so long before we've decided to give this a try, but better late than never.

Pepolino
Set on kind of like a 3 storey place, with the outdoor as the first level, a small first level, and the main room with the bar at the top floor. It had a nice cosy feel with the ambient light coming in amongst the brick walls.

Starters
Compliments of the restaurant, was a nice dip. I don't exactly remember the name or details, but there was some olive oil at the base. It had an interesting texture, where it looked like it was going to fall over, yet was firm enough to be a spread.

Passato Di Peperoni Gialli
The passato di peperoni gialli, a yellow bell pepper soup. Also known to me more as just yellow capsicum, you could definitely taste the capsicum flavours quite distinctly. It wasn't overpowering, not too creamy.

Melanzane Grigliate
An melanzane grigliate, grilled eggplant with smoked mozarella. The eggplant was layered underneath thin cuts of mozarella and was actually divine. Somehow cheese here in the US has started to grow on me, and that's with all cheeses. Although this is just plain mozarella, the taste and texture of this melting over eggplant is extra nice.

Straccetti Di Agnello
Straccetti di agnello - lamb straccetti sauteed with artichoke and cherry tomatoes. The thin slices of lamb ensure that it's not too chewy and that it provides a much larger surface area to absorb the sauce. It's not too rich at all, and a hint rosemary gives it a little touch of contrast and spice.

Maltagliati Al Ragu Di Vitella
Maltagliati al ragu di vitella. Having never heard of or tried maltagliati pasta, I had to give this a try. The waiter actually prefers this pasta over all the others they have here, as its specially made here. It's a thicker (wider) pasta, but very thin. Being served, the layers wrap themselves around the veal ragu, and you definitely can't go wrong with ragu!

Creme Caramel
Creme caramel. But this just doesn't look or taste like one. It was much too firm, and the caramel was too thick. Quite disappointed with it, having so been looking forward to another good creme caramel. Definitely something to skip.

Ricotta Cheesecake
What was one thing to miss, leads us to another not to miss. The ricotta cheesecake was definitely the cheesecake to have. Nothing fancy with presentation, just a simple slice served on a basic plate makes this even more deceiving. The flavours and textures of this cheesecake are exceptional. Light, yet rich with flavour. Definitely impressive!

A nice local italian place that's worth coming back for. I'm sure this would always be some comforting food, nothing out of the world yet reasonably priced.
